Dima Hasao district of Assam is known for its stunning and unexplored terrain. The waterfalls of Dima Hasao share similarities with the those of Karbi Anglong Plateau and the Jaintia hills of Shillong. As every cook and corner of this beautiful land is filled with waterfalls, here is the list of unexplored waterfalls of Dima Hasao district:
Panimur Waterfall : Most Visited Waterfalls of Dima Hasao
Panimur waterfall is 120 km from Haflong (district headquarter of Dima Hasao District). It takes around 3 hr 47 min via SH 16 and NH627 from Haflong to Panimur. It is 32.7 km from Umrangso (another small town in Dima Hasao) and is mainly a great attraction for tourists. This offbeat tourist destination is called the Niagara of Assam and the resemblance cannot be overlooked. Though the riverfront is bereft of any modern amenities, you can enjoy this scenic place in a rustic way. People can enjoy picnic, riverboat ride, rafting etc. The location is treated by Dimasa tribe of Karbi Anglong as pilgrimage site.
Bendao Baiglai Waterfall : Most Beautiful Waterfalls of Dima Hasao
Bendao Baiglai Waterfall of Dima Hasao is about 13 km from Haflong (district headquarter of Dima Hasao). It is near a village named Samparidisa. Bendao Baglai Waterfalls is located around 3 km from Samparidisa village. The area surrounding the village is home to three magnificent waterfalls nestled amid the lush green forests. The trek is a little difficult. The path is almost covered by forest shrubs as it is less travelled. Visitors need to walk for 45 minutes to reach the waterfall area. Parking facilities are available near the village, but you need to carry food and water during the trek.
Miyungma Daogah Waterfall
The waterfall is situated at village called 29 Kilo, near Kopili river. It is on the road connecting Panimur with Haflong. If you are visiting Umrangso village of Dima Hasao, this waterfall is a must visit place. It is not a bog waterfall but very beautiful.
If you are travelling from Guwahati, Assam, you can also visit this waterfall via Nagaon as it is about 50 km from Lanka, Nagaon. Parking place is also available near it. The best time to visit this waterfall is fromOctober to February.
Harangajao waterfalls
The waterfall is situated at village called Bolosam. It takes almost one and a half hour (38 km) via NH 27 from Haflong to reach the spot of Harangajao Waterfall. It will take another 40 minutes of trekking to get there. The view from the location is worth watching after climbing massive rocks.
TongHaam / Tongham Waterfall : Unexplored Waterfalls of Dima Hasao
It is one of the least explored waterfall of Dima Hasao. As it is situated at Natun Leikul village, it is also known as Natun Leikul Waterfall. It is just 20 km away from Haflong and the waterfall can be reached via NH 27. You have to park your vehicle at the village and trek from there. The road to the waterfall is not properly demarcated and we all know the accuracy of Google Maps in exploring! So, It’s better to ask the locals in advance or take a guide. You can bathe in the pool of the waterfall. All you need to do is bring extra pairs of clothes and towels.
Dilaima Waterfall : Unexplored Waterfalls of Dima Hasao
The waterfall is located in Dimainu village, Sangbar which is approx 127 km from Haflong. One can reach this waterfall via NH 627 in 6 hours from Haflong. The waterfall is named after Dilaima river. It is an half an hour trek to the waterfall. The best time to visit this waterfall is during the winter season on the month of Oct -December. If you visit this place during summer season, due to excessive flow of water current you could not cross the river and take full view of the waterfall. Location of the waterfall in this link.
Banglaima Daogah Waterfall
Banglaima Daogah’ waterfall is situtated near Kapurchera, Harangajao in Dima Hasao. It can be reached via Nh 27 and it is 28 km from Haflong. It is 4 km trekking to the waterfall with a beautiful view of green hills on the background. The road to the waterfall is full of small crossing bridge made of bamboo over the rivulet. How To Reach Dima Hasao?
Dima Hasao is well-connected to the Guwahati – state capital of Assam. The headquarter of Dima Hasao district, Haflong is located southeast of Guwahati approximately 330 km away and can be reached through various modes of transport.
By Train: Haflong is the main railway station of Dima Hasao. Haflong is well connected by train from Guwahati and Silchar. It takes approx 6 hour 30 minutes from Guwahati to Haflong by train. There are at least 6 trains from Guwahati to Haflong both in morning and afternoon hours.
By Air: LGBIA (Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport) in Guwahati is the nearest airport of Dima Hasao. You can take a taxi service from airport to Haflong or use public transport like buses and trains.
By Road: The roads of Dima Hasao are well-connected to main cities like Guwahati, Silchar and Lanka. There are several buses, both private and state run which offer transportation services from the main cities of Assam to Dima Hasao. For bus services from the state capital Guwahati to Haflong, one can travel by overnight buses that depart from Guwahati at 6:00 pm and 7:00 pm everyday. To travel back to Guwahati, one can travel by buses that depart from Haflong at 6:00 pm and 6:30 pm everyday.
