The Kamakhya Temple of Guwahati is Guwahati’s most famous tourist place. Every year thousands of visitors across the globe embark on the Maa Kamakhya Temple Tour to witness this majestic temple and its authentic religious vibes. Because of the sheer number of visitors that the temple receives each day, the visitors are regulated through a system of passes and tickets. In this blog, we will discuss everything about Kamakhya Temple Tickets, timing and how to book them
Kamakhya Temple Tickets
There are three types of tickets to get the darshan of the deity i.e. to visit the inner sanctum sanctorum of the Kamakhya temple. The types of Kamakhya Temple tickets are the general ticket, VIP ticket and VVIP ticket. There is a special ticket for defence personnel also. But, before booking a ticket for Kamakhya Temple, you must know the darshan timing for the deity along with the entry and exit time.
Kamakhya Temple Timings
There is no separate timing for the VIP pass or general pass. The temple door opens at 8 AM and closes at 4:30 PM (winter)/5 PM (summer). There is a break time from 1 PM to 2:30 PM during which the temple gate remains closed. The time limit is strictly adhered to by the temple authority.
There is a catch; the Kamakhya temple gate opening time changes to 9:00 AM during important festivals such as (Durga Puja, Holi, Manasa Puja and many other Hindu festivals).
Kamakhya Temple General Tickets
You don’t need to buy tickets for a general pass. You just need to stand in the queue. The average waiting period for darshan through the general line is 5 to 6 hours. There are three halls for general tickets. The halls are numbered as Hall 1, Hall 2 and Hall 3. The gates of the halls are opened one after one.
Once you join the queue, you will be assigned a hall where you can sit until your time to enter the garbhagriha (inner temple). The assistant at the gate of the hall will inform us about the timing. You have to wait at the hall for a minimum of 2 hours on a normal day. The waiting time increases if you visit on holidays and festivals.
After you pass the hall gate, you need to join another queue to enter the inner temple where the deity of Maa Kamakhya is placed. It would take another 1 hour to finally get a darshan of the deity.
You see, the process is divided into three phases. First, you join the queue to get into the halls. Second, you wait in the hall and Third, you join the final queue to get the darshan.
Tips for General Ticket: You must plan your trip early in the morning, preferably at 5 PM. If you are visiting during the festive season, make it at 4 AM. In this case, you can easily get a darshan by 9 -10 AM. After that, you can easily explore the temple complex and nearby areas. However, if you join the initial queue at 9 AM or later, you will have to wait till 3 PM to get into the sanctum sanctorum.
Kamakhya Temple VIP Tickets
In the general queue, it would take around 6-7 hours before you get to visit the sanctum sanctorum of the temple. If you want to cut this time by half, then you must buy a VIP pass for Kamakhya Temple Tickets. Besides, if you are travelling with children or sick or elderly people, a Kamakhya Temple VIP pass becomes essential. This is because following the queue is a physically demanding task.
The cost of a VIP ticket for Maa Kamakhya Temple is Rs. 501/- (Five Hundred and One Rupees Only). There is no fee for children below 10 years of age. Children are given free entry along with the passes for parents/guardians.
VIP Tickets Booking
You must visit the Special Ticket Counter to book the VIP ticket. The special Kamakhya Temple ticket counter is situated on the left side of the entrance gate. The ticket counter is generally not busy. A token number is written on the VIP pass. The help desk at the counter would guide you about the main entrance gate and your timing slot. The tickets are sold three times a day. Each time, only 100 tickets are sold.
Things To Note Before Buying a VIP Pass
- The best time to book a VIP ticket is at 7:30 AM; for that, you have to be at the counter queue before 6 AM on normal days or 5 AM on holidays/festive days.
- Suppose you get to the temple at 5:30 AM, book a VIP slot at 7:30 AM, and you will get your VIP darshan between 8:30 – 9:30 AM. So, the average visiting time is 4 hours. But again, Kamakhya temple timing depends on which day you visit.
- Once you book a VIP ticket, you will be given seats in a restroom where are 100 seat capacity (as 100 persons are given tickets per slot). Once the temple door opens, you will be informed and you join the queue. Until then, be seated and relax in the name of Maa Kamakhya.
