Golden Langur and Its Habitate

Also known as Gee’s golden langur, it is found in an area of approximately 30,000 square kilometres (12,000 sq mi) bounded on the south by the Brahmaputra River, on the east by the Manas River, on the west by the Sankosh River, in Assam, India, and on the north by the Black Mountains of Bhutan.  In India 93% of the population is found in Ripu and Chirang Reserve Forest under Raimona National Park in Assam, in the western part of Manas National Park, and the remaining occur in several small isolated fragments of Kakoijana Reserved Forest. A very small population of golden langur is also found in Umananda Temple in Guwahati. All forest reserves are located in Kokrajhar and Bongaigaon district of Assam. In order to raise awareness about this rare species of old primates, Golden Langur Festival is organised.

When is Golden Langur Festival?

Golden Langur Festival is organised in the first week of January every year. Exact dates are released three months prior to the event. In the year 2024, the event was organised from January 3 to January 7, 2024.
