Karbi Anglong district in Assam is a hidden gem known for its tourist places and stunning waterfalls. Unlike the more frequented destinations in neighbouring Meghalaya, Karbi Anglong’s waterfalls remain pristine, largely due to the district attracting fewer travellers. However, in terms of beauty, the waterfalls here are equally mesmerizing. Among all the waterfalls in Karbi Anglong, Bhelughat Waterfall stands out for its untouched beauty and unexplored charm. This blog is written to provide a comprehensive guide to planning your visit to Bhelughat Waterfall and nearby tourist places of Karbi Anglong.
Bhelughat waterfall is also known as Dikrut or Dikrutpi waterfall as the fall is source of Dikrutpi river which is flowing nearby.
Why Visit Bhelughat Waterfall?
Bhelughat Waterfall is a perfect destination for nature lovers and adventure enthusiasts seeking solitude amidst nature’s splendor. The waterfall cascades down from a great height, creating a spectacular sight and a soothing sound that enhances the serenity of the location. The surrounding lush greenery and the tranquil atmosphere make it an ideal spot for a peaceful retreat.
How to Reach Bhelughat Waterfall
Bhelughat waterfall is situated at the west of Karbi Anglong district. So, it is more accessible from Nagaon district than from Diphu if you are travelling from Guwahati. If you are travelling from Silchar, then you can reach the waterfall via Diphu (district headquarter of Karbi Anglong).
To reach Bhelughat waterfall from Guwahati or from Dibrugarh, you have to reach a small town called Dokmoka which is approximately 60 km from Nagaon. From Dokmoka to Bhelughat, it is around 18 km, and it will take around 1 hr.
If you are travelling in your private or hired car, you can follow this route: Guwahati-Nagaon-Dokmoka town-Bhelughat.
However, if you are travelling by public transport (roadways or railways), I would suggest you to go to Diphu first, as the public transport is not convenient from Nagaon to Bhelughat. You will need to change buses and waiting time is more. So, for those using public transport, you should go to Diphu first, then take a cab from Diphu directly to Bhelughat.
By Road:
Diphu is well-connected by road to major cities in Assam. You can take a bus or drive from Guwahati, which is about 200 km away. The journey offers scenic views of the countryside and takes around 5-6 hours.
By Train:
Diphu Railway Station is the nearest railhead, located about 30 km from Bhelughat. Regular trains connect Diphu with major cities like Guwahati and Dimapur. From the station, you can hire a taxi or use local transport to reach the waterfall.
Best Time to Visit
The ideal time to visit Bhelughat Waterfall is during the monsoon and post-monsoon months (June to October) when the water flow is at its peak, and the surrounding greenery is lush. However, be prepared for heavy rainfall and plan accordingly. The winter months (November to February) are also a good time to visit, with pleasant weather and clear skies. However, during the winter months, the waterfall’s beauty diminishes due to the reduced flow.
